Library Advocacy

Recently you have seen some e-mails from HLA about advocating for certain legislation. That is all part of HLA's responsibility to our membership in support of librarians and libraries. We have a great new brochure that helps spread the word about the importance of all types of libraries. Check it out and please print a copy to share with anyone you think could benefit.

Speaking about advocacy, what better way to show your support than to participate in ALA's Library Advocacy Day on Tuesday, June 29, at 11 a.m. in Washington, D.C. on the U.S. Capitol grounds. If you are going to ALA this year, please consider participating. It is a free event but you do need to register. If you want to be styling, get an HLA t-shirt or polo shirt to wear on the Hill.

HLA welcomes new Board member

Andrew Wertheimer is the new ALA Councilor as of February 15, 2010.  Linda Golian-Lui is stepping down after many years of service to HLA.  We thank Linda for her dedication to our organization and feel confident that we will continue to see her as an active member for years to come.

Mark Your Calendars: HLA Spring Meeting set for April 24

The HLA Spring Meeting is coming April 24, 2010. It will be at the Bishop Museum, an evening of dinner and socializing. Our speaker will be Mark Platte, Editor of the Honolulu Advertiser. Watch for details on registration coming soon.
