HLA Spring Meeting registration now open

You can now register for the 2010 HLA Spring Meeting, which happens Saturday, April 24, at Bishop Museum. The dinner meeting features special guest speaker Mark Platte, editor of the Honolulu Advertiser. For more information and to register, download the spring meeting registration form.

Deadline to register is April 15.

UHM LIS Alumni Group Dinner

The UHM LIS Alumni Group will be hosting its occasional alumni dinner Friday, April 9, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Kapi`olani Community College Tamarind Room. Dinner will be preceded by a wine tasting with Sky Cameron of Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants.

Reference & User Services at Hawaii State Archives

Come join HLA's Reference & User Services Section as we explore procedures and policies of reference at the Hawaii State Archives in Downtown Honolulu.

We'll look at some of the common reference questions the Archives receives and some of the tools they use to facilitate answering them.

User Services include Card Catalog Indexes and their migration online, Finding Aids and an attempt to get them converted to EAD, and online services that are being added to almost daily.

Pohnpei Public Library Day

The Pohnpei Public Library is celebrating its 23rd anniversary this year. The Library has designated Friday, April 16, as its library day for 2010. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Pohnpei Public Library and this year's theme is "Let us not westernize our culture but modernize it."

Prizes for best art and essay contest will be awarded. In addition, there will be short speeches, entertainment and light refreshment.
